What am I doing at Cornish?
I am a senior in Interior Design, and I
consider Design to be a form of art as basic and as complex as
the rhythm of rain and the shadows at dusk. I’ve
been fascinated by the opportunity it provides to create symphonies of spaces
flowing into one another and firmly believe that the quality of the built
environment is intrinsic to the quality of life.
What's going on outside of Cornish?
I am married and we have two boys, a 5 year old and a 2 year old. Life is filled to the brim with school, homework, chores, and a lot of laughter :)
Other than spending time with my family, I love music, reading, cooking, going on long walks and traveling.
What's my background in Film?
I love movies ! Since i grew up in India, Bollywood and other Indian Cinema are a big part of my childhood :)
What are my hopes and expectations from the course?
I've always wanted to know more about music in film, so i thought this would be a great course to take.
What gram did I select from the Madonna video and how did I see that gram recurring in the Buffy episode we watched in class?
Towards the end of the Madonna video, the guy spends a small amount of money to get a farmer's truck for his date with Madonna. The whole video revolves around money, but i thought it was very poignant that from all the thousands of dollars that other guys were spending on her, Madonna chose the guy who spent the least amount of money. So, those few dollar notes were my gram.
I kept a lookout for my gram to reappear in the Buffy episode. Towards the middle of the episode, Dawn opens her jewelry box and a lot of the jewelry still had their price tags attached. There was my gram !!
I'm a bit confused as to how I can do a study on diegesis with these two occurrences. But i thought that when the gram reappeared in the Buffy episode, it had so much more meaning to me than it had to Dawn, because I was connecting those price tags to the the Madonna video, while she was unaware of this. I think that was non-diegetic thought.
